Plenty of owners skip their address for privacy and list only a phone number and city. That's a reasonable call. The phone number is what actually gets your dog home.

Do You Still Need a Tag If Your Dog Is Microchipped?

Yes. A microchip and an ID tag do different jobs.

A microchip needs a scanner, which means a trip to a vet or a shelter. Most people who find a loose dog don't have one. A neighbor. A runner. A driver who pulls over. What they do have is a phone.

A visible tag means your dog is home in twenty minutes instead of two days. It also says immediately that this dog has an owner, which keeps a lost pet from being treated as a stray.

How to Attach a Dog Tag to a Collar

Every tag ships with a split ring — same design as a key ring. Thread it through the tag hole and onto the collar's D-ring. Thirty seconds, and it won't work loose.

S-hooks are faster. But they need to be pinched shut hard with pliers, or they can open under pressure. Split rings are the safer long-term choice.

One safety note: take the collar and tags off before crating. Tags can catch on wire crate bars. That goes for every tag, not just ours.
